How Much Does a Website Cost in NJ? (2026 Guide)
Real 2026 website pricing for New Jersey businesses: DIY, freelancer and agency ranges, what drives the price, and the set prices we publish.

The short answer
In New Jersey in 2026, a professionally built small-business website costs between $3,000 and $25,000, depending on who builds it and what's included. Most service businesses — contractors, practices, firms, local shops — land between $5,000 and $12,000 for a site that's custom-designed, fast, and built to generate leads, not just to exist.
At Over the Fold we publish our prices instead of quoting: $5,500 one-time for a service-business website, $9,500 for e-commerce, both custom-coded with SEO fundamentals, schema and analytics included. You can see every number on our pricing page. The rest of this guide explains what those dollars actually buy, so you can compare any quote you receive — including ours.
New Jersey website pricing by builder type
DIY builders — $0 to $500/year
Wix, Squarespace and GoDaddy's builders will get something online for almost nothing. If you're brand new and the site's only job is to exist when someone Googles your name, this works for a while.
The catch: in a market as competitive as New Jersey, a template site that loads slowly and says the same thing as everyone else's rarely wins the call. Most owners we meet rebuilt their DIY site within two years — so the "free" site ends up being the first of two purchases.
Freelancer — $1,500 to $8,000
A good freelancer can deliver a clean site at a fair price, and for very simple needs that can be enough. The common gaps are strategy and follow-through: conversion thinking, local SEO setup, schema, analytics, and someone who still answers the phone six months after launch. If you go this route, get the SEO deliverables in writing.
Agency — $8,000 to $25,000+
A proper agency build includes discovery, custom design, development, SEO foundations, analytics, and a launch process. In North Jersey, agency quotes vary wildly because some firms price against Manhattan budgets. Which brings up a local quirk worth knowing.
The New York City markup is real — and optional
Businesses in Hudson, Bergen and Essex counties often get quotes from NYC agencies at Manhattan prices: $20,000 to $50,000 for a small-business site. You're not paying for a better website; you're paying for their rent. Plenty of NJ studios do Manhattan-quality work at New Jersey prices — we build for NYC businesses from Belleville for exactly that reason, and our prices are the same on both sides of the river.
What actually drives the price in 2026
Custom-coded vs page builder. A hand-coded site loads in under a second, carries no plugin bloat, and tends to hold up for years. Builder sites (WordPress + Elementor, Wix) are cheaper up front but slower and heavier to maintain. Speed is a ranking factor and a conversion factor, so this choice shows up in your lead count, not just your invoice.
Number of pages. A 5-page brochure site and a 15-page site with individual service pages, town pages and a blog are different projects. If you want to rank across the towns you serve, you need pages for them.
SEO and AI-search readiness. In 2026, being findable means Google and ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews. Structured data, clean headings, real answers on the page, and a complete Google Business Profile are what get you cited. If a quote doesn't mention schema or your Google profile, the "SEO included" line is decoration.
What happens after launch. Hosting, updates, security, and small changes either come with a care plan or become your problem. Ask.
Ongoing costs NJ businesses should budget
The website is the start, not the whole bill. Typical monthly numbers in this market:
Hosting and care: $30 to $300/month depending on who manages it. Local SEO: $750 to $2,000/month from reputable NJ providers — ours is $1,250/month and includes Google Business Profile management, local content, technical SEO and monthly AI-visibility tracking. Ads management: usually around $1,000/month plus your ad budget. None of these are mandatory on day one; a strong site with a complete Google profile is the right first investment.
Four questions that expose a bad quote
- "How will this site generate leads, specifically?" If the answer is about colors and vibes instead of calls, forms and the map pack, keep looking.
- "Is it custom-coded or built on a page builder?" Either answer can be fine — but the price should match the answer.
- "What SEO is included at launch?" Meta titles, schema markup, analytics and Search Console should be standard, not an upsell.
- "What does it cost after launch?" Get hosting, care and change-request pricing in writing before you sign.
What we charge, published
Because "it depends" is how NJ business owners end up overpaying, our prices are public: $5,500 service-business website, $9,500 e-commerce, or $4,500 to launch inside The BOLD System (site + SEO & AI search + CRM follow-up) at $2,250/month. Ready-to-go sites typically launch in about 7 days. Every number is on the pricing page.
